2021 has been a busy year for the UDRC
- We continue to offer defensible space assistance to low-income Seniors via our MCM Senior Program.
- We extended our popular Defensible Space Fuels Reimbursement program into the La Pine area.
- As of November 9, 2021, we reimbursed $46,425 to 98 applicants from the Reimbursement program and paid $2000 for contractors doing fuels reduction for 2 Senior applicants. There are still approved applicants in the pipeline for both programs this year.
The UDRC board welcomed Carol Brennan as a new board member during the October board meeting. Carol is a resident of OWW 2.
At the last board meeting concern was expressed about wildfire risk from the 40-acre USFS parcel in OWW 2. Members of the Public Lands committee communicated these concerns to the USFS. Our USFS contact responded that there are 3 small scale fuels projects in the planning process. They are the 40-acre parcel within OWW 2, Forest Lane access road to River Forest Acres, and the Fall River Estates area These projects are planned for 2022-2023.
Looking forward to 2022
We have already received grants totaling $13,000 from First Interstate Bank and BNSF to help finance the reimbursement programs when they open for new applications after the first of the year.
We are awaiting approval for a new $90,000 3-year grant from the Mayebelle Clark MacDonald Fund.
We hope to start Informational meetings again depending upon the availability of meeting space, and the resources needed to plan and run them. We welcome the help of anyone who would like to volunteer to help schedule and run the meetings.
The UDRC works very hard to keep our administrative overhead to a minimum. There are certain operating costs that are required to keep functioning and we depend on donations to pay them. These include maintaining our website, insurance, government fees and taxes, postage, a phone number, etc.
Please consider a donation to the UDRC. Every dollar counts towards keeping our programs in place. UDRC is a 501c3 organization and donations towards operating expenses are tax deductible.
